ODENSE THE CITY OF ODIN
26. JUNI – 4. AUGUST
Images of the Gods at Funen Printmaking Studio
The name Odense means Odin's Sanctuary and links the city to the Viking Age's sacrificial rites and the Norse gods.
From June 26 to August 4, Funen Printmaking Studio presents the exhibition *Images of the Gods*, featuring graphic works inspired by Norse mythology. Members of Funen Printmaking Studio have long been inspired by Odin and the Norse gods.
Norse mythology has inspired artists since before the Viking Age. Odin, for example, is depicted on gold bracteates from the Iron Age as well as on coins, jewelry, and runestones from the Viking Age. The myths live on in place names, personal names, and cultural traces.
The exhibition takes its starting point in the stories of the Norse gods, where power, cunning, love, conflict, and wisdom meet in a universe shaped by the forces of the Æsir.
The opening reception takes place on Friday, June 26 at 3:00 PM, where the exhibition will be opened by Poul Baltzer Heide from Museum Odense.
