Artistic look at wildlife – and ourselves
Even though Funen Printmaking Studio is based in the middle of Odense city, its heart beats for nature – and for the many creatures we share the planet with. In this year's summer exhibition Animals we spotlight the diverse, alluring and sometimes strange world of animals – not just as motifs, but as mirrors of our own existence.
Because we are animals ourselves. Part of an endless biological experiment that has unfolded over millions of years. This exhibition explores our relationship with animals – both as fellow creatures, symbols and artistic expressions.
A diverse community of artists
The exhibition Animals presents works created by members of Funen Printmaking Studio – one of Denmark's most vibrant graphic workshops with more than 300 active artists affiliated with it. The artists work with many different graphic techniques, from classic intaglio and lithography to modern experimental expressions.
Funen Printmaking Studio is centrally located right across from the new H.C. Andersen Museum. Over the years the workshop has attracted artists from all over the world, and today we have members from around 20 different nations. The artistic breadth and cultural diversity is clearly reflected in the exhibition, where the animal motifs are interpreted in very different ways – poetic, political, humorous, raw and moving.
A gallery in the middle of the city – with a view of nature
In our gallery, Grafikken, we invite the public to a sensual and thought-provoking exhibition, where the shapes, colors and symbolism of animals unfold in a multitude of graphic works. It is an opportunity to experience how nature – and especially animals – continues to inspire, amaze and move us.
Animals is a tribute to our connection to all living things. A reminder that we are not above nature, but part of it.
