THE BORDERLAND OF LONGING
15TH OF MAY TO THE 23TH OF JUNE
From May 15 to June 23, Funens Grafiske Værksted will open its doors to an exhibition with printmaking artist Hanne Ida Helstrup.
In the exhibition Længslens grænseland Hanne Ida draws lines through the national romantic landscape, human existence and longing. In her search, she digs up the answers using the plate as a canvas and the etchings as her visual artistic language.
From the dark soil of Funen to the southern Schleswig borderland, she processes nature's repetitions — the furrows, rhythms and tubercles in the fields — and translates them into thoughtful and visually poetic traces that we as viewers can explore — and perhaps find bits of ourselves in.
Her graphic works arise in a field of tension between the seen and the sensed, between the national romantic and the completely personal, between the quiet and the persistent.
Layer upon layer, she works her way from darkness to light, creating a poetic and textured story about what we are surrounded by and what we long to belong to.
Opening Friday, May 15th, 3–5 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
Hanne Ida Helstrup is a trained visual artist and printmaker from the Funen Academy of Fine Arts. She lives in Southern Jutland and has worked with graphics as her visual artistic language for decades, where the rhythms of nature and human existential longing merge in form and surface.
